The TheraPearl Story
Dr. Carol Baltazar was always giving bags of frozen peas to her patients who needed cold to reduce pain or swelling from the cosmetic procedures she performs. Ice therapy is a practical method proven to minimize bleeding, swelling and bruising while simultaneously providing pain relief — a must-have for her medical practice.
When one patient, Gina Dubbé, scoffed at the vegetables, Carol confessed her long time desire to improve on the solution and vented her frustration that commercially available ice packs did not meet her high expectations. Carol tried every cold pack on the market, but none fit her needs. Most were rock solid when she took them out of the freezer, making them unable to conform to treatment areas. Other products were inconvenient or messy.
Carol explained her never-ending search for the perfect ice pack, and how she spent countless hours experimenting with different materials. Carol knew the ideal pack would be composed of gel, similar to that of existing products, but also shaped like the commonly used bag of peas. She needed a pack that was soft on the skin and easy to use. “If the product you are describing doesn’t exist, then we will create it,” responded Gina, an accomplished Engineer and Venture Capitalist. The enterprising duo immediately set to work, developing the technology capable of delivering the product benefits that they envisioned. With Gina’s strong technical background and Carol’s invaluable practical experience, it was not long before prototypes were ready for the ultimate test group. Carol tried it out on a few patients and the response was overwhelming. Carol’s patients weren’t the only ones excited to ditch their outdated products. Her friends and family soon recognized the benefits of TheraPearl and convinced her to give everyone the opportunity to leave their veggies for the dinner table.
